The Center for Creative Leadership tells us that leaders develop and learn to lead through experience. The 70/20/10 rule:

  • 70% time spent action learning through fieldwork: small tests of change, reflecting, testing assumptions, deconstructing conversations
  • 20% time spent in coaching relationship, thinking partners, group reflection exercises
  • 10% time spent on introduction of concept, best practice, and cognitive tools to support action learning
